Joseph E. Manges

Attorney and partner Joseph E. Manges has been practicing law with Comeau, Maldegen, Templeman & Indall, LLP since 1983.  Mr. Manges concentrates his practice in the areas of commercial litigation, natural resources, real property, financial institutions, and appellate law. 

Mr. Manges has served as lead counsel in numerous commercial cases, including contract, tort, employment, intellectual property, civil rights, insurance, and construction defect disputes and in bench, jury, and arbitration proceedings.  Mr. Manges has deep experience in the natural resource and environmental areas, including handling federal and state environmental and permit proceedings before various federal and state agencies under mining and environmental laws, including NEPA, the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and their state counterparts. His clients include companies operating or developing potash, uranium, gold, silver, natural gas, rare earths, beryllium, pumice, sand and gravel resources, and water rights. 

Mr. Manges' real property practice includes representation in residential and commercial transactions and development, water rights, land use planning, subdivisions, condominiums, zoning boards, and related appeals and litigation.  He also lectures in those areas.  Mr. Manges has experience representing state and federally chartered banks and credit unions and presently serves as General Counsel for Del Norte Credit Union.  He has previously served as a member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of Santa Fe Federal Employees Federal Credit Union.  His representation includes general corporate legal work, advising corporate boards and assuring regulatory compliance with all aspects of federal and state regulations, including representation before the United States National Credit Union Administration and New Mexico Financial Institution Division. 

Mr. Manges has an active state and federal appellate practice, having over 40 reported published opinions in state and federal appellate courts.  In 2007, the Supreme Court of New Mexico appointed Mr. Manges to its Appellate Rules Committee, and he is presently serving his second term on that Committee.
