When Ms. Cook joined the firm in 1984, she was licensed as a nursing home administrator and serving as a Federal District Court appointed receiver for Chapter 11 intermediate care facility debtors in Albuquerque. She brought with her eight years of experience in commercial property management including nursing homes, apartment complexes, retail strip malls, and shopping centers.  Paula Cook has been an attorney with Maldegen, Templeman & Indall, LLP since she began practicing in 1984 becoming a partner in 1989. For thirty years Ms. Cook has focused 90% of her practice in real property including real estate sales, purchases, leases and the related financing. She was listed in the 2014 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the category of Real Estate Law. Paula Cook primarily deals with real estate transactions spanning residential, farm and ranch, and commercial properties and loan documentation for those types of transactions. Ms. Cook handles complex covenant, easement, and encroachment enforcement issues and disputes, regularly addresses subdivision, zoning and other land use matters and represents homeowners and condominium associations with administrative issues and disputes. She also represents individuals in disputes with those associations and subdivisions. Additionally, Ms. Cook works with the purchase and sale of water rights and the perfection of liens on those rights.

Ms. Cook’s commercial practice includes financial transaction advice and loan documentation including perfection of liens on water rights and other real property and acting as local counsel for out of state individuals, entities and lenders in transactions secured by real property.

Ms. Cook represents clients in a broad range of real property disputes including seller and broker misrepresentation in the sale of real property, breach of contract, construction issues, lease disputes and foreclosures. She also assists clients with wills and trusts; probate, intestate succession and trust administration; and guardianships and conservatorships, regularly handling contested matters in each of those areas.
